Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary dance class is a blend of three dance styles that focus on fluidity, expression, and technical precision. The focus will be on developing proper technique, learning choreography, and exploring self-expression through movement.

JAZZ
Jazz is a quick moving, technical dance form that infuses a “cool” aesthetic. This class will focus on flexibility, turns and leaps, stylized steps, and coordination through center-floor work, across the floor progressions, and combinations. Dancers are educated in Classical Jazz, Musical Theater, and Contemporary Stylized Jazz styles influenced by Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Modern.
LYRICAL
Lyrical is a dance form that integrates the discipline of ballet, the freedom of jazz, and the creativity of modern dance. This class will focus on the use of personal emotion and storytelling through movement that plays with the use of articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary is an expressive dance style that combines elements of several dance genres including ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, and acrobatics. Classes include expanding the technical vocabulary of each dancer through contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation exercises.
DRESS CODE
OPTION 1:
Choice of tights, bike shorts, jazz pants, jazz capris, form-fitting tank tops, sports bras, workout tops, or leotards.
OPTION 2:
T-shirt, tank top, basketball shorts or leggings. No baggy shirts or pants.
*Please note that casting and costumes will be chosen according to the option the student chooses to wear for class.
HAIR:
Hair must be up and out of the face. Pulled back in order to spot (messy bun) – no long ponytails. (unless specified by your teacher).
SHOES:
Jazz | Lyrical | Musical Theatre — jazz shoes, half-soles, foot undies, or barefeet.
